MEA Profiles: Elizabeth G. Strom, LLA, RLA, PP, Landscape Architect, Professional Planner

Elizabeth Strom is a Landscape Architect and Professional Planner at Menlo Engineering Associates, Inc. and reports directly to the firm’s executive management team.

Beth has over 30 years of experience as a New Jersey and New York Licensed Landscape Architect and a New Jersey Licensed Professional Planner.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from Rutgers University.  Before joining Menlo Engineering in 2000, she worked at NYC Parks, the Westchester County Department of Planning, and Sheehan Consulting Planners in New Jersey.

At Menlo Engineering, Beth’s responsibilities include conducting planning and regulatory reviews as part of the conceptual site planning process, landscape architecture design, and the preparation of environmental impact statements.  As part of the Landscape Architecture team, she is involved in projects that run the gamut from warehouse distribution centers to a dairy processing facility located in a newly established historic area.  Beth is involved in every phase of a project including feasibility and concept design, planning, landscape architecture design, and expert testimony.  She acts as a liaison between clients and public entities and her work integrates environmental and regulatory constraints with creative and environmentally-sensitive planning and design solutions.

Beth has created landscape architectural designs for many major developments in New Jersey, notably Teachers Village, a sustainably-designed (LEED Neighborhood Development certified), mixed-use community located on five blocks in the heart of downtown Newark featuring six new buildings that house three charter schools, a daycare facility, 204 units of rental housing marketed to teachers, and 65,000-square feet of retail space.  Her other projects include:  designs for the Whole Foods Market and adjoining properties in Metuchen, developed as part of the Borough’s new downtown district; the 360,000 square-foot QTS Data Center in Piscataway; the Homestead at Hamilton, which includes independent living, assisted living, and memory care residences on 24 acres in historic Hamilton Township; the Bridgeport Logistics Center - a 1.3 million square foot modern warehousing and distribution space in Perth Amboy; and the three-level, 65,000-square-foot TopGolf entertainment venue (LEED Silver certified) located on the former Ford Industrial Plant site in Edison. 

Beth has provided expert planning and landscape architectural testimony resulting in Use Variance and Bulk Variance approvals for numerous projects, including:  the Stratford Manor Rehabilitation and Care Center in West Orange; Prologis Ports Elizabeth; the Strayer Adult School in Piscataway; Summerhill Plaza in East Brunswick; the FMC Linden Dialysis facility for Choice One Medical in Linden; and the Somerset Woods Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Franklin Township, Somerset County.
